Off-the-wall comedies, intimate and involved documentaries, strange experimental work, classic drama, animation for children and for grown-ups too…

People in love, people splitting up, people getting back together, people being born, people dying, people playing tricks and not getting away with it, parents unable to communicate with their children, children playing, children growing up, killers appearing suddenly from a distant past or from round the corner...

Animals imitating humans: a mouse trying to intimidate a lion, a stray dog, shrews looking for a fight, larvae becoming flies, a mad sheep...
____
Whether they’ll make you cry or laugh, the films in Competition all have a good strong story-line.

Line-up now finalized! - October 7, 2008

After hours of viewing sessions and heated discussions, the festival crew and its 15-member Selection Committee have picked the films which will have the opportunity to enter the competitive section of the 31st Rencontres Henri Langlois, the international film schools Festival!
____
48 schools accross 25 countries on all five continents will be represented through 12 different programs.
____
62 films, including 12 French films, will screen:
28 narrative, 8 documentary, 5 experimental films and no less than 21 animated films: never before have there been so many!

Focus on the selection process - September 2, 2008
____
Two weeks after the submission deadline, here's a rundown on the entries...
____
This year, 1063 films were received by the Festival!
____
Among them, 522 narrative (49%), 307 animated (29%), 203 documentary (19%) and 31 experimental films (3%).
____
These films originate from 193 film and audiovisual schools or university departments, representing 51 countries.
____
68% of all submissions are European (724 films), including 25% French submissions (268 films).
____
It comes to a total of 14,815 minutes, that is, 247 hours of film to watch, which should keep us busy for quite a few weeks...


 
 

Submissions now closed - August 16, 2008

A great number of schools and directors have submitted their films by the deadline.
____
The selection committee views an increasing number of films while the last submissions are being processed.
____
This year, over 1000 films are competing to be part of the official line-up to be announced early October.

Revamped archives now available - July 31, 2008

The Festival Archives are back on our website, after undergoing a minor face-lift.
____
Therefore, you can now browse through the list of the films programmed in Poitiers since 2000, i.e. the 23rd Festival, access essential information about each film (synopsis, director’s biography, cast), learn more about Jury members and award winners, etc.

The selection process has started! - July 24, 2008

Since the opening of the call for entries last April, the crew of the Rencontres Henri Langlois has been receiving films by upcoming filmmakers from all over the world.
____
Our selection committee has already watched nearly 400 films from over 30 countries, and it'll need courage until the August 15 submission deadline...
Last year, for its 30th edition, over 1,300 entries were submitted. No doubt it’ll take many evenings of film viewing before putting together a thorough, eclectic line-up.

The Festival has moved! - July 1, 2008
____
The Théâtre - Scène Nationale de Poitiers, the producer of the Rencontres Henri Langlois, international film schools Festival, has become the TAP, Theater & Auditorium of Poitiers.
____
A three-letter acronym for a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of downtown Poitiers, boasting a 1,100-seat main auditorium and a 720-seat theatre.
This is where, December 5-13, 2008, the 31st Festival will be pleased to screen the films in Competition and hold its traditional masterclass.
____
Therefore, the Festival crew has just moved from its former premises into the TAP Cinéma, the arthouse theatre of the TAP - Scène Nationale, where both the Focus on Africa and French short films sections will be screened.
