CONFERENCE: TEACHING CINEMA IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA > Thursday 10 December at 14:15 at the TAP Cinema Moderator: Jérémy SEGAY, Asian film specialist Before the first screening of a selection of films from South-East Asian film schools, each of the schools or educational establishments invited will have the chance to present, to professionals and the general public who choose to attend, the specificity of the institution’s teaching and its particular situation within the national context, at a round table conference. Celebrated film directors Rithy Panh and Garin Nugroho, patrons of this focal point, will be asked to give their opinion on film education in their country, their involvement in this education and the links they have with young filmmakers trained in these schools. Following the conference, the film Mémoire et Images : une Expérience Cambodgienne by Franco Lolli Gomez and produced by the Thomson Foundation, will be presented, to recount the unique experience of the Bophana Center, created by film directors Rithy Panh and Leu Pannakar. This film was born of a desire to highlight the importance of image as a key component in the remembrance of a country’s past. The project was entrusted to a young filmmaker so that he would inject his own take on this search for remembrance through a heritage under reconstruction.
