David Frenkel was born in 1975. He was 16 when he directed his first short, Le jeu n’en vaut pas la chandelle, at the Créteil youth cultural centre. He entered ESSEC business school in 1995 when he acted in several plays. Besides he staged Art, a play by Yasmina Reza. In 1996, he contributed to the film Picture Perfect in New York City. Upon graduation in 1999, he returned to New York City and worked as a banker for BNP Paribas. Back in France in 2001, he joined Why not productions as executive producer. David Frenkel did cameos in Arnaud Desplechin’s Léo, en jouant dans la compagnie des hommes and Un conte de Noël (A Christmas Tale). In 2008, he produced two shorts directed by Charlotte Erlih: Signes, Best Short Film at the Saint-Jean-de-Luz International Festival of Young Filmmakers and Eaux Troubles.
