The documentaries from Europe selected for this section of the programme are all uniquely written and recount a filmmaker’s view of the world, of emerging or disappearing cultures.

Moving testimonials or political statements, these Docs of Europe also feature witnesses of history, touching characters, colourful personalities.

The documentaries chosen for this section, composed of 5 sessions, are awarded-winning films from previous years or were hand-picked during the selection process.

Round table – professionals, open to the public
Documentary writing in European film schools - Saturday 12 December at 9:30 am at TAP Cinema.

At the end of the week, after having screened the Docs of Europe and the CREADOC session (Masters in Documentary Creation at Angoulême), a round table debate will gather together filmmakers and representatives from European film schools as well as specialists in the subject in a bid to investigate documentary writing in European schools.
____
This debate will also be the opportunity to create links between the schools present, while offering avenues to explore based on the selected films.

Über die Schwelle - mit Walter Ruge

The film recounts the extraordinary destiny of Walter Ruge, a German communist who was born in Berlin in 1915. Because of his political opinions, he fled Germany in 1933 to go into exile in the URSS. Eight years later, he was condemned for obscure reasons to 10 years of hard labor in several Siberian work camps.
