"Europe-Asia" round table - Friday 11 December at 9:30 am at the TAP Cinema
____
This round-table, organised with support from the Asian European Foundation (ASEF), will be reserved exclusively for professionals from Asia, Europe and other continents, invited to the Festival.
____
It will be the opportunity for school directors to put forward proposals for partnerships, student and staff exchanges, and even to consider equivalent qualification ratings between certain course modules and to promote the creation of a network of European and Asian schools and relations between young European and Asian film scholars.
____
A certain number of these young filmmakers, entering their graduation film in the festival competition, are studying to become film producers. They have chosen specific courses in their schools. This festival is equally a chance for them to work on opportunities to develop projects together in the future.
____
To introduce this round table, the Asian European Foundation (ASEF), as a partner of this focal point, will present the purpose of its actions and the conditions of its support and funding for projects involving partners from several Asian and European countries. Since 2002, ASEF has supported the film industry through several initiatives: a series of Asia-Europe Film Meetings; the website Sea-images, an information portal for young film students; and recently AECPI: Film, a support fund for projects developing exchanges between Asia and Europe in the field of filmmaking.

Moderators: Jérémy Segay, Asian film specialist and Bastian Meiresonne, journalist specialised in Asian film.

Documentary writing in European film schools - Saturday 12 December at 9:30 am at the TAP
____
After having screened the Docs of Europe and the CREADOC session (Masters in Documentary Creation at Angoulême), a round table debate will gather together filmmakers and representatives from European film schools as well as specialists in the subject in a bid to investigate documentary writing in European schools.
____
A round table to compare approaches to documentary writing, describe their differences and similarities and to highlight the particularities of such teaching.

“What place do documentaries hold in film schools? Is this genre less highly regarded and sometimes even neglected in programmes? Not in the least. 20% of the films on offer at the Rencontres Henri Langlois Festival this year are documentaries. Although this proportion is minimal, it is counterbalanced by the inventiveness demonstrated by these films. We can even go so far as to say that it is in this form of film that creativity can appear at its greatest, if we consider the rich hybridisation between fiction and reality.
Drawing upon film extracts taken from the festival’s selections, this round table will highlight the diversity of documentary writing, in particular within European film schools, which are very focused on documentary production.
This debate will be the opportunity for the young filmmakers and school representatives present in Poitiers to describe the educational courses dedicated to documentary filmmaking in their establishments.
